Yesterday, October 18, 2023, The School of Arts and Sciences department commenced the first day of college days with the theme, “Enchanted Wings: Embracing Tinkerbell’s Realm.”
At 9:52 AM, students wearing different colors representing various houses participated in the parade as they walked through the university grounds. Subsequently, the event’s program officially started at the IHM Gymnasium, hosted by Angelica Cortez and Tel Enriquez.
The SAS Dean, Alberto B. Santos, virtually delivered welcoming remarks and encouraged every eagle to participate in the event’s activities to celebrate diversity and make long-lasting memories. “This event is a testament to our collective spirit for years to come,” he added.
Different activities then simultaneously commenced at 10:45 AM onwards. Meanwhile, the preliminaries and coronation night of the Mr. and Ms. SAS started at 5:30 PM.
Although its first day launched successfully, some students expressed disappointment. The reasons cited were the almost 3-hour delay of the assembly and parade, which was supposed to start at 7:30 AM, and the lack of engagement surrounding the events.
“Those who arrived in time had to endure that long just to face events that appeared to lack preparation. They did not feel that engaging.” a student commented.
“It would have been more enjoyable if they included elements like background music during games and perhaps an emcee or commentator to narrate and hype up the scenes.” one student expressed.
Despite the technical problems and the lack of adherence to the scheduled time and preparation, the Eagles still managed to carry on with the programs with enthusiasm by participating in the activities and supporting their teammates.
This year’s theme, “Enchanted Wings: Embracing Tinkerbell’s Realm,” revolved around a world of magic and fairies. Houses of this event include the Luminary Legends (Yellow), Majestic Mystics (Blue), Forest Phenoms (Orange), and Swift Shadows (Purple).
The second day of the SAS college days will commence today with the remaining rounds of the competitive games, Best Dance Competition, Battle of the Bands, and the awarding ceremony.
