By Adrianne Aquino | September 4, 2024

Last August 28, 2024, The Angelite awarded Emmanuel Manalastas the Most Outstanding Student of the Year award at the 17th Angelite of the Year (AOY) at the Peter G. Nepomuceno (PGN) Auditorium.

AOY is The Angelite’s highest and most prestigious award given to selected students, student organizations, and teachers. It aims to recognize the most outstanding individuals and organizations in the university for their excellence and commitment to serving the Angelite community.

“Serbisyong maka-estudyante at serbisyong maka-masa, ito ang testamentong ipinaglalaban ng The Angelite sa loob ng 17 years. Bilang bahagi nito, tungkulin bilang pahayagan ang kilalanin ang mga personalidad, mga mag-aaral, guro, mga organisasyon sa loob ng ating pamantasan na pinaghugutan ng aming ipinaglalaban ay inaalay din ang kanilang mga sarili para sa serbisyo sa masa at sa kaestudyantehan.” Godwing Pring, the Editor-in-Chief of The Angelite, stated in his speech.

In an interview with The Nexus, Manalastas mentioned how the award is both validating and motivating in pursuing his service to the community as the USC President.

“Siguro, ang laking validation niya rin after all the years– syempre nagpapagod ka for your fellow students and your community… motivation siya kasi, lalo na ngayon nagseserve pa rin ako as USC President and marami pa kaming plano for the student body so malaking motivation siya talaga para ipagpatuloy yung mga serbisyong na… nasimulan namin.” Manalastas expressed.

HAU Psychology Society (HAU PsychSoc) from the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) department also became a finalist in the Most Outstanding Student Organization of the Year category, with the Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students (PHISMETS-HAU) from the School of Nursing and Allied Medical Sciences (SNAMS) bagging the award. Meanwhile, Professor Ednel Datu from the School of Business and Accountancy (SBA) wins the Most Oustanding Teaching Personnel award.
