Delegates from Holy Angel University (HAU) secured first place in the best SAS practice and community project presentation during the 18th Philippine Association of Practitioners of Student Affairs and Services (PAPSAS) Region III annual leadership convention last June 13 - 14.

Former University Student Council (USC) President, Shejanira Arcilla, and former USC-SAS Senator, Gabriel Oraye showcased their previous project for HAU University Days, BIYAHE: Kasabay sa Tagumpay. Arcilla stated how BIYAHE was a tribute to the struggles of jeepney drivers during the jeepney phaseout and how students can better engage in fighting for the cause.

The “Ayoko Nang Pumara” concert became the highlight of the project, in which the money raised from ticket sales were donated to various beneficiaries, not limited to the jeepney drivers of Angeles, Pampanga, but also 50 Indigenous families and employees of the university. Moreover, they also clarified that non-HAU students were the only ones who had to pay for the concert tickets. Around 350,000 pesos were garnered and 169,000 pesos were utilized for their outreach program. The concert was spearheaded by the former USC-SAS Senator, April Angeles.

Arcilla ended the presentation with a quote, underscoring how student leaders can be “the catalyst for change, one activity at a time.”

This year’s PAPSAS convention was held at Palm Cabanas in Arayat, Pampanga, and was attended by student leaders from different universities of Region III.
