HAU PsychSoc holds two-day celebration of Psychology Days

by Rico Tiglao, Micah Martin and AJ Anunciacion | January 9, 2024

HAU Psychology Society (PsychSoc) orchestrated its two-day celebration of Psychology Days, entitled: “Better Together: All These Wins Mean a Little More” last January 4 and 5, 2024 at the PGN Auditorium.

The first day was hosted by Stephanie Mallari and Kiel Oliver Lacson. Whereas the SAS Dean, Alberto B. Santos, virtually delivered opening remarks.

“Psychology Days is a vibrant portal to the boundless human mind,” he stated, “… expanding the lens through which we see ourselves and each other,” he further expounded.

PsychSoc organized different activities including “Psych Feud: Erudition Beyond Diversity” where sikolohistas played a ‘“Family Feud’” inspired game revolving around psychological concepts, “I am Elemental: The Amazing Race” that commenced at the IHM Gymnasium, and “Burning of the Brightest Minds: Team Quiz Bee.”

The second day started with a workshop seminar by Jervis Lumanlan, RGC entitled: “Take a Break, Make a Connection: A Guidance and Counseling Workshop.” Then, “Steal the Show: A Theatrical Singing Competition” followed in the afternoon, with two judges invited: Kyle Wayne Serrano and Jewel Gem Cunanan.

Before the awarding ceremony, PyschSoc prepared engaging unfreezers, including ‘Bugtong-Bugtong’ and ‘Tumpakners,’ a trending game from a famous Filipino TV show ‘It’s Showtime.’

The event then culminated in an awarding ceremony for the winners of the competitions. The House of Lumen emerged as the overall champion for this year’s Psychology Days.

PsychSoc’s primary mentor and chancellor, Prof. Bianca Banog and Cheanne Lapuz both expressed gratitude towards the people who made Psychology Days a success.

The event ended as planned, but according to some students, there are improvements to consider with the program flow and technical aspects.

“If only the activities did not occur simultaneously, I would have wanted to watch both. I also think that the event will overall be more successful if scheduled, not instantly after the return of classes,” a student commented.

Despite these circumstances, some participants commented, “It was fun, actually, especially because of the inclusive atmosphere of the event."

On the other hand, a senior student raised a concern on behalf of OJT psychology students regarding mandatory attendance at the said event despite their ongoing training.

In line with this, two days before the event, an approved letter penned by PsychSoc suggests that they get excused for their missed working hours and still render their time spent on the event.

“I get (understand) the importance of Psychology Days for us psych students, but there may be cases wherein OJT students are not allowed to render these hours when they are on campus but not on site,” the student said, “well, I think kaya pa naman i-habol yung hours. Maaga pa naman. (referring to the timeframe given to complete the overall OJT hours).”

The event followed a ‘The Elementals’ theme wherein students clustered into four (4) houses: Cumulus (purple), Grouchwood (green), Lumen (red), and Ripples (blue).

The winners of the events and competitions are as follows:

Overall Champion: House of Lumen

Winners of “Psych Feud: Erudition Beyond Diversity” (Family Feud)

Winners of “Burning of the Brightest Minds” (Quiz Bee)

Winners of “I am Elemental” (Amazing Race)

Winner of “Steal the Show” (A Theatrical Singing Competition)

Winner of “Capturing You” (Canvas and Poetry Contest)
