Holy Angel University’s Bachelor of Arts in Communication program underwent an assessment by the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) group on September 26–28, 2023, held within the university campus.
The three-day assessment was done by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eric Wibisono as the lead assessor, alongside Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watana Padgate as an assessor, and Ms. Soranee Chuyingsakultip, an AUN-QA secretariat.
In a written interview with Dr. Alfredo B. Santos, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) department, he shared details regarding the preparation and processes for this assessment.
The first day of the quality assessment involved interviews with the Self-Assessment Review (SAR) Team. This team was composed of Dr. Santos (SAS Dean), Mr. Rodolfo de Guzman (SAR Head), and Ms. KC Rivera (BA Communication Program Coordinator). Furthermore, BA Comm students from freshmen to seniors were interviewed, as well as the academic staff. In the afternoon, the assessors visited the school facilities, including the Broadcast Studio and the Angel Network Studio, mostly utilized by communication students.
On the second day, the assessors called the program alumni and employers for an interview via Zoom Meeting. They also met the SAR Team for a discussion prior to the assessors’ presentation on the last day. The third day was then wrapped up by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eric Wibisono and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watana Padgate.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eric Wibisono left an affirming statement: "Your heart is in the right place. We've interviewed other students and alumni from different universities in the Philippines, and soft skills are very easy to notice, but they learn the hard skills outside the university. But here, in your university—in your program, the soft skills are there, yes, but the hard skills are also very evident with your students and alumni."
The BA Comm program is expecting the results in three to five months. Dr. Santos expressed his positivity towards the results, given the feedback left by the assessors.
Dr. Santos also acknowledged how the offices within the university extended their help to prepare the laboratories for the event. Moreover, he gave credits to the Department of Communication and Languages faculty, the former dean of SAS, Dr. Janette Rodriguez, and the former BA Comm Program Coordinator, Mr. Marvin Viado.
The AUN-QA Network has the mission to harmonize educational standards and seek improvement of academic quality in ASEAN region universities. In accomplishing this mission, they conduct quality assessments, including the AUN-QA Programme Assessment that was faced by the BA Comm.
