Atty. Jose Manuel “Chel” Diokno delivered an address at the Green Theology Advocacy Project (GTAP) Conference, held at the University Theater last February 27.
Emphasizing the conference’s theme, “Care for the Integrity of Creation: Not an Option but Moral and Ethical Imperative,” Diokno, a prominent human rights lawyer, highlighted the importance of cultivating national consciousness and social conscience in building a just and humane Philippines.
“All the power in the country rests with you,” Diokno said to the students. The rest of his speech was focused on the role and power of youth in nation-building.
Towards the end of his address, Diokno invited the audience to record a video with him wherein they shouted the phrase, “Puwersa ng Kabataan, Power ng Bayan!”
In an exclusive interview with Prof. Lorna Tyson, the Identity and Character Formation Officer and a Theology 102 professor, she revealed the objective of the session: “It is meant to challenge our young people to live the integrity of life, then advocate for the care [of] our common home, and at the same time, keep an unwavering spirit to stand for truth.”
The conference was organized by the Theology 102 core group under the Christian Living Education (CLE) department of the Institute for Christian Formation and Social Integration (ICFSI).
