Angelites march for inclusivity

By Kayel Salvador | June 28, 2024

Holy Angel University (HAU) students and employees joined in the celebration of inclusivity last June 28, 2024, at the Epiphany Garden.

“Inclusivity: Walking Together” is an event conducted to unite people of different backgrounds and empower them, creating a welcoming community on campus. Students from various departments gathered at the Epiphany Garden and marched around the boulevard, carrying signages and flags representing many communities like the LGBTQIA+ community, Indigenous people, and students with special needs are among the minorities present.

In addition, employees from the Institute for Christian Formation and Social Integration (ICFSI) and the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) can also be seen participating throughout the walk.

In an exclusive interview with the project head of the event, Charles Lansang, he highlighted the significance of such representation on campus, “It offers a platform for minority communities to be acknowledged, heard, included, and supported. It provides the entire HAU community with the opportunity to express their identities and, despite our differences, demonstrate that we are one compassionate and inclusive Angelite community.“ Lansang said.

Students who participated in the walk also expressed how this event sparked a hopeful beginning on campus. A student from BA Psychology stated in an interview, “I hope that the inclusivity walk will be a catalyst of change for the university and for the students to be more welcoming towards diversity.”

The student also conveyed their eagerness for change on campus to fulfill the inclusivity they promote, “For the next step, I believe that we can start in amending the rules for haircut and cross-dressing to allow queer students to express themselves in such way that feels right for them.”

The inclusivity walk was organized by the HAU-University Student Council (HAU-USC) and spearheaded by Charles Lansang, along with his Officers-in-Charge (OICs) namely: Charisse Angel Lopez, Tristan Adriel Soto, and Sean Gerome Quiambao.
